Jacob & Co’s Bugatti Chiron watch is stunning

Welcome to the Bugatti Chiron of watches. No, it’s true, the Chiron Tourbillon is Bugatti’s first new watch in partnership with Swiss watchmaker Jacob & Co. Like the car it pays homage to, it's over-engineered and expensive.

By far its most stunning feature is a miniature model of the massive Chiron W16 engine. Push the right crown (the other two crowns are used to set the time and wind the movement) and a tiny solid steel crankshaft begins to turn, moving the piston up and down. At the same time, the two "turbochargers" on either side of the engine begin to spin.

Of all the flying tourbillon movements, a clean design took more than a year to put together and consists of 578 different parts. J&C claims the crankshaft is “one of the smallest and most complex watch parts ever made.”

Happily, the whole thing is on full display, suspended in the 41.7mm-wide case by what looks like four shock absorbers. The watch features sapphire crystal on the top and sides, and the tourbillon is tilted forward 30 degrees for easier viewing.

The price is high for a watch, but it's still probably not the most expensive piece in the average Chiron owner's collection.
